RPV Head Lead Curtain Shield 

Features: 

The Preferred Engineering RPV Head Shield Curtain is a multi-component system designed to create a radiation shield for PWRs. The Shield Curtain is designed to have levels of shielding to provide full height protection from a staged RPV Head. Lead blankets (typical) are bolted to cross members which provide the required attenuation. Each cross member can be individually loaded pre-outage and hung once inside the RCA. The sections are designed to fold into Transport/Storage boxes that facilitate movement into and out of the RCA. 

Benefits: 

• Curtain can be loaded using standard supplied Lead Wool blankets 

• Blanket pieces are fixed between section strongback pieces with bolts 

  • No hooks or tie wraps needed 

  • Decreases Maintenance issues 

• Storage boxes allow for shielding to be installed OUTSIDE containment reducing dose and avoiding critical path impact.
