PCC-3 How To Enter/Exit Service Manual

Symptom

One of the features of your PCC-III Controller is Service Manual Mode.  Service Manual is a controller state that temporarily removes control of the 4-20 mA and Triac outputs from the user configured controller blockware and places the control with the permanent firmware of the controller.  There are several reasons for doing this.  One of the most common reasons for using Service Manual Mode is so that the 4-20 mA and/or the Triac outputs can be manually manipulated during a troubleshooting session.  Another common reason would be to place the controller in Service Manual while a block value is changed.

Steps to Troubleshoot

1.     Open the door at the bottom of the controller exposing the four Edit push buttons.  From left to right the buttons are labeled:

2.     Press the (ESC)/ EDIT.  Doing this takes the controller out of Process Mode and places it into Edit Mode.  The display will change from showing the names of the process variables, to the Main Edit Menu selections, starting from the top are:

QUICK MENU

(ENTER S/M) or (EXIT S/M)

PASSWORD MENU

EDIT A BLOCK

MEMORY MENU

UTILITIES MENU

CALIBRATE I/O

COM MENU

3.     When you first enter Edit Mode by pressing the (ESC)/EDIT, you will see QUICK MENU on the display.  Press EDIT and the Main Menu item being displayed will change from QUICK MENU to the next menu selection down which is ENTER S/M.  If you were already in Service Manual Mode, QUICK MENU would have changed to EXIT S/M.

 

4.     To put all of the AOUTs and Triac OUTs into Service Manual, Press ENTER.  The phrase ALL S/M will be displayed.

Pressing the ENTER button again will put all of the Analog Outputs and all of the Triac Outputs into Service Manual.  The display will return automatically to the (EXIT S/M) selection in the Main Edit Menu and the Run Light will blink.

Now you can exit Edit Mode and return to Process Mode by pressing (ESC)/ EDIT; the RUN Light will continue to blink, reminding you that the controller is in Service Manual.

Now, by pressing the DIS Button, you will be able to scroll through the various processes, at the end of which, all of the AOUTs and Triac OUTs will be displayed, one at a time.

As the controller displays an AOUT or a Triac Out you can change the output value by pressing the ↑ or ↓ buttons.

To advance to the next output, press DIS and adjust the output value up or down as needed.

Now if you want to take the controller out of Service Manual you can get back into the Main Edit Menu by pressing the (ESC)/EDIT button.  This will put the control of all of the analog outputs and triac outputs under the control of the blockware logic.

Now that the controller is in Edit Mode, you can arrow down once to EXIT S/M.

Press ENTER.  The EXIT S/M will be replaced with ENTER S/M and the RUN Light will stop blinking.

Now the controller is out of Service Manual but it’s still in Edit Mode (Main Menu).  To exit out of Edit Mode, back to Process Mode, press (ESC)/EXIT.  The controller will go back to displaying the process variables and their values.

 

5.     To put a particular AOUT or Triac OUT into Service Manual, when you see the phrase ALL S/M, press Edit .  What you will see is the designation for the first AOUT scrolling across the display (AO b1c1, which stands for, Analog Output, Board 1, Channel 1), followed by the word AUTO.  By pressing the Edit button you can scroll through all of your AOUTs and Triac OUTs.

The number and type of outputs your controller has depends on whether you have installed Option Boards and which option boards you may have.  Without any Option Boards the basic PCC-III has two AOUTs (AO b1c1 and AO b2c2) and zero Triac OUTs.  With one or more Option Boards installed, the number of outputs can increase, so there may be more outputs to scroll through.  There may be Triac outputs as well as Analog outputs.  Once you get to the last choice of outputs, the menu rotates around to the beginning of the list which is AO b1c1.

 

Now you have to select which 4-20 mA or Triac output you want to put into Service Manual.  If you wanted to manually move a boiler damper, you need to know which output the damper is wired to, and put that output into Service Manual.  To do this, EDIT through your outputs until the correct output is scrolling across the display.  Press ENTER.  You will notice that the word AUTO which was following the output designation has gone and been replaced by S/M and the green RUN light will be blinking.  Return to Process mode by pressing (ESC)/EDIT twice.  Now the process variables will be displayed.  By pressing the DIS Button, you will be able to scroll through the various processes, at the end of which, the output that was put into Service Manual will be displayed.  You can change the output value by pressing the ↑ or ↓ buttons.  As you do this, the position value being displayed on the top of the controller should change and the damper should move accordingly.

 

6.     To put more than 1 but less than all of the AOUTs or Triac OUTs into Service Manual, when you see the phrase ALL S/M, press Edit .  What you will see is the designation for the first AOUT scrolling across the display (AO b1c1, which stands for, Analog Output, Board 1, Channel 1), followed by the word AUTO.  By pressing the Edit button you can scroll through all of your AOUTs and Triac OUTs.

Now you can select which 4-20 mA or Triac outputs you want to put into Service Manual.  To do this, EDIT through your outputs.  When a correct output is being displayed followed by the word AUTO, press ENTER.  The AUTO will change to S/M and the green RUN Light will start to blink.  To go on to the other output selections press EDIT and then ENTER if you want it to be in Service ManualWhen all of the desired outputs have been selected and put into Service Manual, return to Process Mode by pressing (ESC)/EDIT twice.  Now the process variables will be displayed.  By pressing the DIS Button, you will be able to scroll through the various processes, at the end of which, the outputs that were put into Service Manual will be displayed.  You can change their output value by pressing the ↑ or ↓ buttons as the outputs are being displayed.

 

7.     To take the output(s) out of Service Manual Mode, press (ESC)/EDIT.  The top selection of the Main Edit Menu will be displayed, QUICK MENU.

 

8.     Press EDIT .  The display will now read EXIT S/M.

 

9.     Press ENTER.  The display will read ENTER S/M and the green RUN light will no longer be blinking.

 

10. Press (ESC)/EDIT to return to Process Mode.
