Upgrade HD-A1 Leak Sensor To The HD-A2-C Leak Sensor

The HD-A1 & HD-A1-D5 Oil/Water Discriminating Leak Sensor has been a work horse of a sensor for Preferred Utilities since it’s debut. Unfortunately this sensor has been discontinued due to part to build it not being available to us anymore. Therefore Preferred Utilities has developed an upgraded oil/water discriminating leak sensor called the HD-A2-C. This sensor has multiple advantages over the old HD-A1’s including that it is fully UL Listed and it’s now a 2 wire 4-20mA sensor that makes it easily acceptable into almost any system that accepts analog inputs. Since the HD-A1’s are no longer available use this guide to help you upgrade your equipment to the new HD-A2-C Leak Sensors.
Steps to Troubleshoot
The f rst step in this process is to identify if the existing HD-A1 is coming from a D3 Tank Gauge or a PWC.
If the HD-A1 is coming from a D3 Tank Gauge in a Preferred PLC Panel:
1. Since the D3 & HD-A1’s are all obsolete the entire tank gauge system will have to be upgraded to a Fuel Sentry system with compatible components.
2. Identify the Sales Order of the Job, or use the D3 Serial Number to trace the original Sales Order.
3. Contact your *Local Representative , and order the following:
A. TG-EL-D4A-00-0-0 Fuel Sentry Tank Gauge, Shipped Loose, Up to 2 tanks.
B. 190752C Fuel Sentry Cabinet Adapter Plate to fit Fuel Sentry into existing cabinet.
C.. If a blank adapter plate is needed use Part # 190752.
D. The correct replacement level sensor and quantities.
E. The correct quantities of HD-A2-C’s
F. Flat fee for engineering to update Program, Wiring
Diagrams, Bills of Material & Sequence of Operations.
G. Delivery for Fuel Sentry, Level Sensor, HD-A2-C & Plate = 3-5 Days (Typical)
H. Delivery for the updated program & wiring = Consult Engineering for lead time
If the HD-A1 is coming from a Stand Alone D3 Tank Gauge:
1. Since the D3 & HD-A1’s are all obsolete the entire tank gauge system will have to be upgraded to a Fuel Sentry system with compatible components.
2. No f eld components except for contact closures and overfill alarm cabinets can be re-used
3. Get the Serial Number for the D3 and use those components as the starting point for your quote (example: HD-A1 becomes HD-A2-C, TG-EL-WF-7 becomes TG-EL-WF-7-C).
4. Feel free to send along the Fuel Sentry recommended Wiring & Setup Manual for their review.
5. For further assistance in picking the correct components consult with the Tech Support Department
If the HD-A1-D5 belongs to a PWC:
1. Identify the Sales Order and Serial Number of the PWC.
2. Identify the quantity of HD-A1-D5’s that need to bereplaced and on what channels they are currently wired into.
3. Contact your *Local Representative , and order the following:
A. The correct quantities of HD-A2-C’s.
B. Order one 1K Resistor Part # 22102C-1/2CF per HD-A2-C.
C. Update Program, Wiring Diagrams, Bills of Material & Sequence of Operations.
D. The latest version of the ROM Chips Part #’s 99626-PU10 & 99626-PU11.
E. Delivery for HD-A2-C & the ROM Chips = 3-5Days
F. Delivery for the updated program & wiring = Consult Engineering for lead time
